IPL's impact on cricket - boon or bane?

IPL's impact on cricket - boon or bane?
Cricket +
Selling cricket short
The IPL is artificial, made for and by television. It is a momentary thrill - no one remembers what happened last year, or perhaps last week. Worst of all, budding cricketers now feel they can bypass traditional skills and strengths and excel in this one format alone.

Completely agree. The IPL is just like soap, you watch it for the season and then forget about it. It leaves no memory, you hardly care for the teams. It can be entertaining, but it's not really for sports fans.
Posted by: Soutik 12 hours, 39 minutes ago
The biggest issue I have with the IPL is the kind of the class structure it has created. It's true that it has spread the wealth to a lot of domestic players, but the rewards are so disproportionate with talent. Ravindra Jadeja earning 2 million dollars. What a joke! What does it tell the next generation?
Posted by: Soutik 12 hours, 32 minutes ago
Absolutely. Ditto for Yusuf Pathan.
Posted by: Ali 11 hours, 34 minutes ago
Couldn't agree more!
it is just a money spinner and they are making the sport all about money and many fans are demanding its own window! It was designed to counter the ICL and now is just a money making machine....
Not the cricket I grew up watching..

The IPL has been a boon to many of the professional cricketers across the world. Not everyone gets a berth on the IPL train but only a select "few" which in turn allows a player to perform and produce at the highest level to be considered for an IPL contract. There is an equal argument on the downside of IPL where young cricketers are going for the quick buck rather than concentrating on the longer formats of the game. But again, it's upto to the player to decide what he wants to do or achieve as a professional. Overall, IPL has been a boon to many of the professional cricketers as well as the public and has been a fantastic mode of entertainment! thanks to Mr. Lalit Modi!

Well IPL is just building on the player's fatigue levels and apart from Cricket having IPL in exam season plays spoilsport in many kids education .
Posted by: Sridhar Ravuri 11 hours, 29 minutes ago
its pure entertainment and on the sad side it can potentially make a budding cricketer complacent thinking its just enough to hit hard and get an IPL contract rather than getting down to the basics and be the next Sachin or Dravid. The money and glamour is not doing any good to cricket but hey I am enjoying it for the moment.

Although I am glad that members of the younger generation will be enthralled into the cricketing world via the IPL, this can only signal the beginning of the end for the Test format. Within the next 20 years, ''cricket traditionalists'' who are the enhancers of Tests (i.e Geoffrey Boycott, as well as many others) will be the minority, and the youth of today will be the fans of tomorrow, and they will phase the Tests out of the game. Sad to say, but it's true.

Well, after the 0-8 test series calamity,I am starting to hate the over enthusiasm the Indian players are showing for their franchises,Common Bhajji just play it cool,Their isn't as much at stake as you think..!

No Doubt IPL is an entertainment sorry it is only entertainment but rape of cricket. where are the days when we after talent but it all BOOM BOOM .... But Dear BOOM BOOM is not cricket!!
Posted by: ram 11 hours, 27 minutes ago
its a bane to cricket.People from political background and other bureaucrats are holding stakes in teams much hyped Indian Premier League. I think Cricket in India needs true Performance of all cricketers rather than showing of their brand endorsement. Senior and Junior Crickets should have equal contracts and pay checks, and Cricket Board should have transparency for running cricket in India. They should also utilize their money for developing various cricket stadiums and should be on competition on par with Australia and should provide best sporting facilities and equipments for all cricketers. next world cup is on australia
Posted by: imran 11 hours, 26 minutes ago
this is just a tamasha(theater)
If this is cricket then I can play better then most players in this league.
Besides, cricketers have become prostitutes of money.
except Sachin who already have got enough and play good cricket shots, only reason for me to watch this nonsence....
Posted by: Parimal 11 hours, 26 minutes ago
First, if you develop your taste of cricket after watching IPL, you will hate test cricket or ODI for that matter. (Who would want to sit in front of the TV set for half a day, when you can watch 2 20-20s in half a day.
Second, agree that 20-20 was made to be a crowd puller, but having 50 days for a national league is rubbish. On one side the players ask for rests and on the other side they play all matches of the IPL?
Third, If you want entertainment, watch movies. Cricket is a passion sport, please do not spoil it with kareenas and shilpas all around the cricket stadium.

IPL has made cricket a business. Its all about money and advertisig. It is not a gentleman game now. Nowadays, no one remember the real cricket where we had memories of our team when they used to play united. This IPL has divided our team India. Players who earn a lot during auction of IPL, they do not perform for our team when they play internationally.
IPL is having a negative impact on the real cricket.
Posted by: ram 11 hours, 19 minutes ago
most of the people considering IPL as bane to cricket but they are watching IPL matches and updating it daily.. confusion?!?!?
Posted by: Hwirisha 11 hours, 18 minutes ago
Totally agree. Players don't develop their skill and worst still it makes test cricket less appealing to the fans.
Posted by: Abhijeet 11 hours, 12 minutes ago
The concept of IPL is good however major rework in structure needs to be done to make it more appealing and profitable for franchises. First of all, I did not understand the bidding system/policies. And they hold it every 3 years that means whatever loyalties for any team that has generated during 3 years will be kicked out of the window. That is why, I support Chennai and to some extent Mumbai because at least their teams are recognisable. #chaos. 2nd point: what is use of playing domestic T20? Take an example in champions league, ICC allow domestic teams from various countries to participate. From India it is IPL teams who get chance to participate. Confusing? If IPL is India’s domestic T20 tournament then what is use of having another one. #Strange
• They should allow domestic T20 to be played under the name of IPL.
• Allow 50% stake for corporate house in every Domestic team allowing them the 50% cost and 50% profit for the tournament. Domestic teams can include foreign players.
Posted by: Abhijeet 11 hours, 11 minutes ago
• Pay higher amount to players but equally or create 3 different grades of A, B and C.
• Involve corporate house to bigger say in domestic teams for T20 tournaments only.
• Players should play for their own domestic teams. In that case, Gambhir doesn’t have to play for Kolkatta and Ganguly for Pune. In case of Dhoni who does not belong to major domestic teams will be included in catchment area and should fall under nearest domestic teams.
Please Note: The solution mentioned above is not exclusive and can be altered but there should be ways to stop changing teams every 3 years. It is ****ing annoying. And it is laughable.

IPL is made for television, for the rich to get richer and for the BCCI to make more and more money. If the BCCI cared about preserving Test cricket, it would not have come up with IPL. After 8 consecutive Test losses abroad, they are still focused on IPL and haven't taken a single step to improve Test cricket in India. To add to that, as Dravid told Sharda Ugra, kids these days (of his children's age) will grow up watching and dreaming to play for IPL instead of Test matches for India.
Posted by: Saurabh Singh 11 hours, 1 minute ago
Yes, it is even better than boon, domestic cricketers who were earlier facing so many challenges have got at least one good platform to prove them selves. Even you can see that only those are rewarded who performed consistently well. In this short format also you need good cricketing skills, patience and last not the least game spirit. I am completely favor of this league which is inspiration and motivation to few persons, fun and entertainment to few persons and last livelihood and source of income to few persons.
Great work by Mr Modi..!!
Posted by: Koushik 10 hours, 59 minutes ago
I do like the 20 over format in small doses. You do not need a 2 month long tournament at the end of which you do not even remember what happened earlier in the tournament. This overload on flat tracks kills the game and all it does is make players injury-prone and shorten their cricketing lifespans. Why can't they just adopt a grouping system and get the whole thing over in 20 days like the Champions league? This format has the attention span of few days that's all. I still remember the Sharjah ODI games and the World cup encounters from back in 1996 but I cannot for the life of it, remember a game from the 2010 IPL. That pretty much sums up what this tournament does to the cricketing world !

To say in short, IPL is a punishment. Cricinfo should take IPL into Indian domestic cricket category, rather than categorizing it separately. For that matter even BBL and BCL, etc CLs..
Posted by: Sunil 10 hours, 38 minutes ago
Totally agree. It dilutes talent from the real game - first class cricket. We need to get crowds back into test grounds, not make T20 into the new Test
Posted by: Shashidhar 10 hours, 33 minutes ago
ok..IPL is making some good chances to domestic n subcontinent players but y de hell these same players wont play when they selected for international 20-20 matches, they al hve earned hell amount, ipl has made domestic players to work with international players but now there is nothing but money..too much of cricket, even ppl now got bored off this, there shld be a limit to cricket now
Posted by: Anonymous 10 hours, 17 minutes ago
As far as test cricket is concerned it is really getting disintegrated and people show less interest in tests.odis however have lost their half colour and at present t20 cricket is saving game of cricket.lets admit atleast t20 is really needed for fans and longer formats for testing mettle of players.without fans game isnt really appealing game.so stop blaming t20 cricket and how many players will get a chance to prove themselves in international stage in tests.ipl has provided a platform for these players.
Posted by: Tejas 10 hours, 4 minutes ago
The IPL has drained the minds of the Indian fan every season simply because of its ridiculously long schedule. IPL-4 lasted for most of April and May, with two matches being played on many days. The format of the IPL is tailor-made to bring in the moolah without giving much thought to the overdose on the spectators.
Posted by: Abiose 10 hours, 3 minutes ago
My only beef with IPL is the abject lack of real quality cricket sometimes displayed. Dibbly dobbly bowlers and half baked batsmen with a few good ones in between. A batter could score 25 in 10 balls with three edges and another misque shot and we say he did great.
Posted by: rocky 9 hours, 3 minutes ago
Too much time on hands to watch this nonsense they call it cricket. The quality of the cricket is ridiculously low when compared to actualy T20 tournament. 60 m boundary means a mishit carries for 6. This should be treated as some local gully cricket and not domestic level because even that has standard and bigger boundary and not retired old monkeys playing with young legs! stop it!!!
Posted by: Srini 8 hours, 50 minutes ago
The IPL is a low quality product which is being sold with obnoxious marketing and will slowly take Indian cricket its death bed, team performing miserably at international level and average players like Jadeja and Vinay making million bucks. Its an insult to intelligence
Posted by: Aman 8 hours, 44 minutes ago
If we are looking for quick entertainment through cricket then why don't we just play Six a side like Hong Kong sixes, even more shots, even lesser skills even more degradation of a gentlemen's game.
Posted by: Vaibhav Gulati 8 hours, 3 minutes ago
The intentions of BCCI were very clear when they started IPL. Mint maximimum amount of money you can. Commercialization was the medium to be followed and it did exactly that. Twitterism and bollywood connection to a sport will only lead to speculations. beside that time-outs, 'city' moments of success, 'karbonn kamaal' catches, 'DLF maximum', such interruptions are not just a few ugly pieces of commentary but also render much annoyance and fury to a cricket fan who disgraced by his team performance gets to witness such redundant gluttony by the authorities. A gently thanks to sponsors in the post match presentation is better. BCCI wants to have monopoly control over world cricket and thus does not allow Indian players to partake in other domestic leagues(BBL and BPL) and if required also knocks them down(ICL and SLPL).

IPL is a stress reliever. I live in Canada and it gives me a break from ice-hockey, basketball, football and last but not the least baseball. I love IPL and my Indian fans have to understand that this is future of cricket. Sponsors love it, players make a decent living, vendors making money every night and the economy and the country get a recognization world wide. It is win-win for everyone but it is very painful for my dad's generation who think that they have spoiled the game. Rogers Sportsnet is broadcasting it in Canada and I get asked lots and lots of questions about the game from my Canadian friends who had a misconception about cricket that lasts for days with lunch and tea breaks and still no result after 5 days. People have started liking it in comparison to baseball. They say it is fast paced, with no glove wearing fielders and diving during fielding etc interests them.
Posted by: ikram 7 hours, 2 minutes ago
Firstly is all about money and no true cricket is missing just a bit or dramma and glamour, which is still great entertainment but keep politics with sports is even worst, howcome you would deny some Quality players from playing on the basis of their country of origin, Its shame indeed ! The IPL is hurting Indian test cricket. Tendulkar, Dravid etc. played county cricket and honed some of their skills there. They took those skills and were able to use them in all forms of the game. Today's Indian cricketers are being quickly drafted into the national side based on how they plonked their front foot down the track and walloped the ball or a few overs that go at 6 to the over. Most IPL players are never going to be viable test options so the IPL is directly correlated with India's abysmal overseas form. They became No. 1 because of inspired individual performances by the greats in the team. This new bunch don't have those skills because they are not testing themselves in overseas conditions. Thus, it's easy to see that the IPL is helping with ODI and T20 form and dealing with pressure in them, but true test specialists need to be coaxed and compensated by the BCCI to playing county cricket and shunning the IPL. This is the only way India's test form will improve.

What IPL has done was evident during the toss at first match of IPL5, when Dhoni admitted that 'in between various commercial shoots for the benefits of franchisees and others, lads had some time to practice...'. Now one can understand where priorities lies in IPL and why CSK fared the way they did against MI.
Posted by: KiQa55 3 hours ago
nothing wrong with 20/20 cricket..its the IPL itself that bugs me..its just 1 big ad..one product placement after another..even the commentators sound insincere..maybe if the IPL was made less cheesier, people would watch it for the cricket.
Posted by: Sandeep 2 hours, 58 minutes ago
IPL is just killing cricket big time.. by playing a few cameos some cricketers become overrated . Test cricket is the ultimate one ! true , no on has enough patience to watch. But that's what makes great players. No one remembers Pollard, Jadeja etc. This is played purely for money. Not many batsmen play proper cricket shots. It's sad that people don't love test cricket anymore.

A shot in the arm
The IPL has spread cricket's wealth right down the line – no longer are the big pay cheques limited to the international stars. It has brought fans to the grounds, it has created a new set of fans altogether, and given the sport a shot in the arm.

I am a new fan and had it not been for the IPL, I would have never watched cricket. After watching the IPL, i had even developed a taste for the longer forms, and isn't that a great thing?
Posted by: wonderfullife 12 hours, 35 minutes ago
The problem with the critics of the IPL is that they that are averse to change. They don't realise that if cricket doesn't change it will simply die. I agree Test cricket is the ultimate test of skills, but if fans don't have to time or patience for it, what's the point? IPL is here to stay: it is the future.
Posted by: Barmy 12 hours, 25 minutes ago
Juhi, I couldn't agree more. I am not a new fan, but the only cricket I watch seriously these days is IPL. That's because that's only cricket we watch as a family. My children will never watch Test cricket. Which is sad, but also true. I am happy that they are at least watching some cricket.
Posted by: Franky 11 hours, 35 minutes ago
Totally agree with Juhi. Before the IPL started I didn't even follow my home team - India - as closely. But because of the rising stars of Indian cricket - and not to forget international stars, they are now playing at Test level. And so, I follow Test cricket as well. IPL is a great advert for Cricket and hopefully T20Is can be used for Olympics...

It is a boon for many young players who want to make it into their national side. Just look at how many young players made it into their national squads over the past few years Ashwin, jadeja, badrinath, rahul sharma, rohit sharma etc......
Posted by: vijay 11 hours, 31 minutes ago
It was 20/20 and IPL that made cricket more interesting atleast for me after the disastrous 2007 world cup for india. I did not watch/follow cricket after that world cup - told myself that i ll never watch, but resumed during the first world 20/20. The best part of IPL is the platform it gives for national players (all countries) and the money they get for all the hardwork they do.

People should stop thinking too much about gains and losses and enjoy the sports. The kind of buzzing crowd we get in IPL matches does prove that people are crazy and passionate for their teams. We enjoy matches and that should suffice. To those who criticize it, why can't they just ignore it?
Posted by: Nishith 11 hours, 27 minutes ago
Completely agree. IPL has it's own fanbase. IPL is very different from Test Cricket and comparing both forms of game is like comparing a Ferrai with Boeing. At the end, I think, we should let the Fan decide which form of the game he wants to follow. Following one game does not mean the other is any less important.

If every country comes up with t20 like this we could very well keep country vs country for worldcup & Champions Trophy alone. Country vs Country is becoming pretty lame when some countries completely outshine others.
Hope this brings out the best in Cricket. And have Test Championship once in every 2 years and that to be only amoung Top 8 teams!

I support the IPL 100%. test cricket is dying and dragging one days with it. no ordinary joe with an ordinary 9-5 wants to watch boring 2 -3 runs per over,20 over spells,5 days in the sun test cricket! we want something to excite our days. the thrills, spills and heart stopping excitement the IPL brings has truly rescued cricket. REAL TALK!

I see following as +ves:
* Close to 2 months of full entertainment, after coming from office :-).
* Talent pool for International teams.
*Chance to proof, for players who have been rested like Bhajji and get back to team.
etc.

I am a purist. I love Test cricket - the battles within the battles, its intricacies, tactics and everything. And IPL does nothing to destroy any of those things.
IPL has many advantages -monetary cushion for players like Sourabh Tiwary, Abu Nechim, Asnodkar etc. who we never heard of. Some go to the next level - Ashwin, Rahul Sharma etc have used IPL as a stepping stone to make it to the national team.
If there are cricketers who enjoy IPL and feel there is no need to play international cricket, then so be it. There is nothing wrong in making money and living a comfortable life without knowing how to leave the ball outside of the off stump.
We have enough cricketers who love playing for the country and they will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
IPL has not diluted tests or ODIs in any way. If at all, there are more people watching cricket for the close matches IPL produces.
Does playing/watching Davis Cup dilute the level of play at Wimbledon? Or vice versa?

Posted by: Vivek-Dravid 11 hours, 20 minutes ago
Test cricket is the ultimate .. the real test and most exciting no doubts on that. But I believe IPL is definitely a boon. It poses you a different challenfge. Remember, how many times does one cricketer gets challenged with 6 runs of 1 ball or 16 runs of 1 over. IPL does that every time. From Virat Kohli to Ajankya Rahane, IPL played an important part in their emergence. Most importantly, it boosts the image of INDIA outside. If at all one thing can be avoided is too much of glamor quotient.
Posted by: Arun Kabilan 11 hours, 17 minutes ago
IPL is a great boon for youngsters from around the world. It played a huge role in strengthening the Indian team's bench strength. But its not much as a boon for the seniors. They are compelled to play by an invisible hand. Sachin could take rest instead of playing a T20 every other day.
Posted by: Sriram 11 hours, 13 minutes ago
IPL is Certainly a boon. Question for ppl who believe Test matches are the only so called proper cricket. In today's busy work schedule who got the time to watch a match for 5 days? even the 50 overs game is too long. its practically impossible for anybody to spend an entire day to watch a match. IPL is very much appropriate with the time of 4 hrs. Just like going for a movie. That too with the celebrities, cheer leaders its good entertainment. Even for the players its a boon. There are number of good domestic players who get a chance to showcase their talent on the international stage. What about Ashwin who performed not only with the ball but even scored a Test match century. Without IPL these talented players would have never got a chance in the international team. IPL rocks!! only problem is with the board that controls the event. Proper rules and regulations must be made in-order to avoid controversy.
Posted by: Omprakash 11 hours, 12 minutes ago
Certainly it is GREAT boon for Sportspersons we should say... As many domestic cricketers never make enough after playing for long for their states.. With IPL atleast they get to make enough for the year in 2 months...that they could not have imagined before and also some efforts bring them close to National Recognition like Jedeja or Ashwin..
Posted by: Saurabh Singh 10 hours, 39 minutes ago
You can not blame IPL for destroying the Test skills in players. Every format of game requires some common and basic cricketing skills and you have to hone these skills by practice and hard work. England is the first to start county cricket and it stood firm on test cricket and no one ever complained about England test team.
Everything has it's own advantages and disadvantages. You have to take the good things and try to improve or at least ignore bad things.
IPL is also a business which includes glamour and money as well. So we cricketer have to decide his cricket life..to lift his game to get entry into Indian Team as Rahul Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Prgyan Ojha or to waste the opportunity credited by IPL like Rohit sharma, Yushuf Pathan, Murali vijay or to limit himself to IPL only.
Every game requires character, hard work and skills; without them you can not be excellent and consistent. So it's on you..Take it as opportunity or leave it as a money and glamour game.
Posted by: Adeel 10 hours, 38 minutes ago
IPL is both boon and bane. I enjoy all formats of the game and let's face reality if cricket is ever going to be a truly international game like football then T20 is the only way otherwise it will remain a private members only club like it is now. In the past 50 years we haven't been able to introduce a new commendable test team from outside the subcontinent. Let's face it, IPL and the likes are the next big thing that will eventually take over like electricity sent oil lamps out of business. Instead of trying to shut down the big thing which won't happen you should make changes in the other formats. Make them more interesting, proper scheduling and promotion, increase pay scale for tests etc.
Posted by: Karn Mamgain 10 hours, 34 minutes ago
Great thing for the game. The only problem, however, is its length. What I do feel should be the case is: a) they should allow five international players and ask for an official IPL window; and b) make it five or six weeks, so, not too long. Plus, there should be greater variety of pitches, and the "mega-auction" should no longer exist. The teams have settled, and it's good to have them this way. Obviously, trading windows have to be managed more prudently. Plus, the BCCI's IPL fund should use some of the money for the betterment of the stadia's facilities.

There is nothing wrong in players or anybody making money.Still the class players like virat can make to test level as well as shorter formats if they really love cricket.IPL is the symbol of next gen India.Which is more independent and energetic.World is looking towards India(either in hope or in jealous).I,personally ,never thought IPL or T20 is ruining cricket but it is giving new dimension to compete against most viewed games like soccer. Its wrong thinking that IPL will harm test cricket. Both are different and professionals know better than us abt this. Now don't give examples of 8-0 loss in test. Did it never happened to any great teams in the past before the dawn of IPL.We lost becasue we played bad and others played good cricket. Those who won also has there domestic T20 formats championship!!

The IPL is certainly a great opportunity for India to find budding talent. It gives cricketers from all over the world a chance to showcase their ability on the world stage when otherwise they would be ignored. Cricket players have another chance to make a lasting impression and impress selectors. It is due to IPL India have players like Kohli, Ashwin and Vinay Kumar. IPL also allows players to face intense pressure and help them find mental stability. That being said the duration of the tournament needs to be examined. 16 matches a side is straining and can lead to injuries and repercussions. Players should realize that it is only a platform to launch their careers to the next level and perform for their country.

Test Cricket needs help and IPL is just getting fans to like the short form of the game. VVS Laxman is an example. He's a hero in the longest format but a nobody in the quickest game of cricket.
Posted by: ashok 8 hours, 47 minutes ago
IPL is better than aimless cricket played by the Indian team. There needs to be more of the IPL and less of the Indian team. The IPL can be played for 3 months but the organizers should aggresively work towards bringing the bowlers back into the game (say allow one bowler to go for a 8 over spell, get rid of batting powerplays and have good bouncy pitches). That should satisfy atleast those purists who dont have too much time on their hands.

If IPL was such a curse, then why would Bangladesh, Australia have launched their T20 leagues on their similar lines.
It brings in money, exposure, celebrity quotient, media attention for local cricketers, games for the stadiums which witness a single international Test Match or ODI throughout the year.

IPL and t-20 is the future. Test cricket may be the 'ultimate' test 4 skills but lets face it, no one has the time or patience to sit through 5 days of boring cricket and then sometimes the whole thing comes to a draw.Only a few actually watch the test matches, and the rest of us just knows about the result on the news. So whats the point, in killing the the most exciting/entertaining form of cricket which is obviously the future and provides money to the players , for the sake of Tests which no one watches?? And if the kids and youth don't like tests , why blame them and force feed tests?? Its time for a change.

IPL is a market driven product. If it's not good enough the market will kill it. If the market (public) gives thumbs up to it, who is to decry the format? After all professional sports is for the viewers right?

A blockbuster summer event producing quality cricket all round. The T20 is the future of cricket. Test cricket, while good, is still LONG and BORING. There is no time to sit 5 days and watch a contest that doesn't guarantee a decisive winner. I am 28 years old and have seen enough of cricket to come to this conclusion. T20 has allowed poor players to prosper, the village boys and small town lads to come and enjoy playing alongside superstars. Take away that and you have a one sided fence. I am proud fan of T20 and would pick a high octane and result oriented sport over the OLD fashioned test match game any day.

IPL is greatest thing happen to cricket after Kerry Packer in 70s. Cricketers are now more professional, fielding is improved, bowling is improved. Scoring rate is improving. Above all IPL is the opportunity to earn big money not even playing for your country. Great money making machine for domestic players. Great job BCCI.

IPL is xcilent, i lyk it concept, ICC should utilize this for globalization of cricket, can remodel Champions trophy: lyk Rank 1 test country 3 teams 4m home T20, rank 1 ODI country get 2 teams, rest of the rank get 1 team... in champions trophy
then the domestic league ll mind blasting too
lyk European football champions league....
my thoughts....

People say Test Cricket is the real cricket. I disagree. Hitting a six requires more skills than playing test cricket.

IPL is Entertainment. Its adrenaline. Its commercial. Its trend. I love to watch it, irrespective of whatever it's doing to the sport. Call me selfish.
